BAPCR Christmas party and evening talk – SOLD OUT
Doors 6pm / Talk 6.30pm, followed by drinks and buffet
We look forward to welcoming you at the Art Workers’ Guild for our Christmas party and evening talk by
Peter Schade, who will present: Museum Framing: Past and Present
Peter will draw upon his wealth of experience working on frames over the past decades for this engaging and informative talk. The presentation will focus on the evolution of museum picture framing, both what was done in the past and current practices, with numerous illustrative examples from experience working at the National Gallery. Peter will also cover the different criteria used to judge the most suitable frame for a painting, and demonstrate the effect of a variety of frames around a particular painting. The talk will also touch upon the most common issues that come up in frame conservation.
Since 2005 Peter Schade has been the Head of the Framing Department at the National Gallery, London, where he is responsible for the re-framing of about 260 paintings in the permanent collection. Originally from Berlin where he trained as a woodcarver through an apprenticeship, Peter has been working almost exclusively with antique picture frames since he came to London in 1990. He also runs his own frame workshop in London.
Places are limited and tickets should be bought in advance for catering purposes. The price includes the talk and buffet.
