Art Workers Guild
We look forward to welcoming you at the Art Workers’ Guild for an evening talk by Jill Dunkerton, Senior Restorer, National Gallery, who will present:
Restoration and reception: revisiting the presentation of a panel associated with Giotto in the National Gallery
Approaches to the restoration of damaged early Italian panel paintings have changed considerably since the painting under discussion was last restored in 1951-2. The new restoration of the painting will be described and discussed, both from a practical point of view and in terms of aesthetic and art historical considerations.
Jill Dunkerton is a Senior Restorer in the Conservation Department at the National Gallery. She has a particular interest in paintings from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries, from both Italy and Northern Europe. She has published and lectured extensively on restoration and the history of painting techniques.
